Shout out to #SimpleGenerosity Neighbourhood Grant recipient from Island Savings a division of First West Credit Union, Buddy Check for Jesse! Buddy Check for Jesse was created in memory of Jesse Short-Gershman to support hockey coaches and players in realizing how important mental health issues are and how to support their teammates. The Neighborhood Grant provided funding for an entire youth hockey team with Buddy Check for Jesse packages. The packages included green tape (the color of mental health), wristbands, helmet stickers, posters, Buddy Check awareness cards, and templates for coaches to speak to the team about mental health. The grant complemented the significant support received from the hockey community and the general community at large.
