Many members volunteer their professional skills by completing tax returns for low-income Canadians at tax clinics organized by local community groups. This is a vital service and CPAs are in a great position to lend a hand!
Members can participate in the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) by volunteering to prepare tax returns and/or by helping a community organization host a free tax return preparation clinic through the CVITP.
Visit the CRA Free Tax Clinic webpage to learn how to get involved.
After registering with the CVITP, members who are not already licensed for public practice must apply for an exemption from licensing. The online process takes only a few minutes to complete: go to the CPABC Volunteer Tax Services page (https://www.bccpa.ca/members/volunteer-resource-centre/cpa-volunteer-opportunities/volunteer-tax-services/) and follow the instructions at the bottom of the page. This licensing exemption application with CPABC is separate from registering to volunteer with the CVITP
CPA Okanagan Chapter will be participating in the SPCA Paws for a Cause event on September 9, 2018. We encourage all CPA's to join our team - CPAws for the Cause - and come out with your puppers (or without) for the walk - or donate if possible.
Any CPA's out there looking to utilize their specific skills? CPABC members can participate as a volunteer preparing tax returns or alternatively can request a free tax return preparation clinic, on behalf of a community organization, through the CRA’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP).
