Overnight Volunteer
Provide positive, social interaction with guests and support to overnight staff.Are you looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity in Kelowna? Are you someone who likes to interact with others? Do evenings work better in your busy schedule? We are looking for caring, compassionate people like you to volunteer! Inn From The Cold – Kelowna is looking for volunteers in our 35-bed emergency winter shelter which operates from November to April. One volunteer opportunity in the shelter is the overnight shift that is from 9pm until 6pm and there is 1 shift available per evening.
Once guests have settled for the night the overnight volunteer can go to bed (there is a private volunteer sleep area). The overnight staff is on duty throughout the night but will wake the volunteer in the event of an emergency and they need assistance. Other shift duties include:
- Assisting with light cleaning prior to lights out
- Interacting with guests (playing cards, chatting, etc)
- Assisting with guest requests
- Helping guests get settled for 10:15pm lights out
Throughout the season we offer a variety of different training opportunities for our volunteers at no-charge or at a discounted price (to cover cost of materials). Training opportunities include, but are not limited to:
- Working with Vulnerable Populations
- Harm Reduction Workshop
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
- Food Safe
- Problem Gambling

This volunteer position has no scheduling requirements attached to it. You can work out your availability and time commitment directly with the organizer.
