Are you interested in supporting our work through volunteerism?!
We are seeking new volunteers for the upcoming 2016/2017 shelter season!
Inn from the Cold – Kelowna offers an emergency overnight shelter to people experiencing homelessness during the coldest winter months:
November to April. Our shelter is located at 1157 Sutherland Avenue.
We offer a variety of different volunteering shifts that can work with any schedule. There is no minimum commitment and you are able to sign up for the shifts that work best for you. The following are the different volunteer opportunities offered in our shelter:
Morning: 6am-9am: (2 shifts available per morning)
Reception: 6pm-10pm ( 2 shifts available per evening)
Overnight: 9pm – 6am: (1 shift available per night - and you are able to sleep for most of the night)
Food shift: Approximately 6pm – 9pm (1 available per night Friday to Tuesday). Signing up for a “food shift” means that you’re purchasing and preparing the meal or snack at the shelter’s kitchen. Guests are to be served the meal at 8pm.
Food 'Service Only' Shift: Approximately 6pm - 9pm (1 shift available on Wednesday & Thursday nights). The evening meal is provided by our community partner, the Salvation Army, and volunteers are needed to reheat and serve the meal to our guests.
Orientation and shelter safety training will be provided upon recruitment, in addition to other releveant training opportunities offered throughout the season (such as Harm Reduction, Problem Gambling, Non-Violent Crisis intervention, Foodsafe, and Working with Vulnerable Populations Training).
